Bok av Ganesan Lakshmanan
Our vision of agricultural growth in the new millennium is that it should be a means of achieving the broader objectives of food security, employment - led growth and poverty reduction. Agriculture is the primary sector of our country giving livelihood and employment opportunities for vast majority of Indian population and due attention was given to the sector in the planning process. Dryland agriculture is characterized by wide spatial and temporal variations in the productivity of crops due to uncertainty and high fluctuations in agro-climate conditions. The limited and uncertain rainfall determined the nature and method of cultivation. This book provides the overall scenario of the agriculture in general and dry land agriculture in particular during the past five and half decades based on both descriptive and empirical analysis. This study has been undertaken to examine in depth growth performance of dryland agriculture for determining or influencing the growth of output of dryland crops at the state and district level during the pre and post green revolution and economic reform periods.
