Käthe Wenzel: Mixed Systems

Bok av Kathe Wenzel Matthias Reichelt Gabriele Dietze
The merging of biology and technology is one of the most fascinating fields of research of today. The Berlin-based artist Kathe Wenzel (1972) takes up this topic and puts the disciplining and mechanising of social interactions, public spaces, human and non-human bodies at the centre of her works. With subversion and humour, she contributes to opening up spaces and to a fruitful dialogue. Her works such as the JelliBelly-Bauchpinselmaschine zur Erhoehung des Selbstwertgefuhle (JelliBelly Ego-Stroking Machine) bear witness to her playful handling of the topic. The new publication presents Kathe Wenzel's Maschinen und Service-Projekte (Machine and Service Projects), Stadt-Systeme (Urban Systems), and Organismen (Organisms), which oscillate between creature and automat, biology and technology. Text in English and German.
