State and Market in a Globalized World: Transatlantic Perspectives
Bok av Detlef Junker
Wilfried Mausbach
Martin Thunert
With the most severe economic crisis since the Great Depression, the relationship between state and market has become the subject of fierce dispute and intense public discussion. In this volume, more than a dozen renowned authors from universities in the United States and Europe representing academic disciplines such as economics, law, political science, sociology, theology, history, and cultural studies offer unique transatlantic perspectives on this debate ranging from the role of regulatory regimes, the development of different varieties of market economies, production regimes and welfare states in the transatlantic world to the role of education and knowledge in a globalized world. They examine the origins of the financial crisis in the United States, reflect on the complex relationship between religion and capitalism, and analyze the rights-bearing individual and its relationship to both the market and the state. Together, the contributions in this volume paint a fascinating panoply of the ways in which globalization, or talk of it, affects ideas of the relation between state and market in various realms. This volume is the product of a conference held at the Heidelberg Center for American Studies (HCA) and generously sponsored by Manfred Lautenschläger, Chairman of the Board of the MLP Group.
