Coastal Change : Significance of Society, Monsoon and Astronomy

Bok av Sabyasachi Maiti
The coast changes gradually, by sequences of hydrodynamic, geomorphologic changes and catstrophic events. In order to understand this, the research work aimed to study long-term (30 years), short-term (10 years) and seasonal coastal changes utilizing satellite data. Three techniques, namely shoreline change rate calculation, newly proposed 'three-unit based coastal change study', and conventional beach profiling were followed here for 113.5 km long coastal stretch along Midnapur Balasore coast of eastern India. Interventions of human being, complex coastal geomorphology, astronomical and seasonal influences were corroborated with derived changes along uniformly spaced transects orthogonal to shoreline positions, and for seven'littoral cells', . Several statistical methods of Linear Regression, Regression coefficient, Root Mean Square Error (RMSE)estimations, were determined and cross- validated.
