Alkanolamine Based Esterquats : Synthesis, Characterization and Properties of their Fabric Softening Formulations

Bok av Rashmi Tyagi
Shorttitle Cationic surfactants are used mainly as fabric softeners. The use of fabric softeners actives in fabric care is increasing tremendously worldwide due to changing lifestyle of the people along with the need of more softer and comfortable fabrics. As a consequence, market of fabric softener consumption is growing and is estimated to grow with a growth rate of 4%. However, environmental concern has always been a key issue in selection of fabric softening species. Esterquats are, therefore, gaining edge over existing cationic species on accounts of superior properties and excellent biodegradability. The aim of this book is to provide up to date information on synthesis and characterization of eco-friendly alkanolamine based esterquats derived from renewable fatty feedstock. Evaluation of properties of fabric softening formulations on different fabric substrates has been studied thoroughly. Furthermore, development of cost- effective softening formulations based on cheaper raw materials has also been emphasized.
