Assessing the Effectiveness of Gcpfee Solid Waste Management Projects : GHANA-CANADA PARTNERSHIP FOR ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION (GCPfEE)WITH EMPHASIS ON SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT AT ABESIM COMMUNITY

Over the years the Ghana-Canada Partnership For Environmental Education (GCPFEE) project has carried out knowledge mobilization and education related to different components of waste management such as proper disposal of inorganic and organic waste at Abesim community. Therefore this study is to examine the effectiveness of solid waste management education carried out by the GCPFEE project. A Simple random sampling technique was employed in choosing the sampling size of the study. Questionnaires and interview guide were the tools mainly used to collect the data. Secondary data for the research were also collected from internet, and newsletters. Majority of solid waste produced in the community is made up of polythene and empty sachet water bags. Individual households collect and dispose their own solid waste. It was found out that solid waste was disposed of through burning and burying at the local landfill site. The quantity of waste generated by respondents was not known, since the respondents had little or no idea about the amount generated.
