Laparoscopic Versus Open Cholecystectomy In Complicated Gallstone : Laparoscopic cholecystectomy is a safe and effective treatment of complicated gallstone disease

Bok av Shaikh Ubedullah
Cholelithiasis is a major health problem worldwide particularly in the adult population. Laparoscopic cholecystectomy has revolutionized the treatment of gallstone disease and has replaced open cholecystectomy the standard procedure for complicated gallstones disease. Previously complicated gallstone disease was considered to be a contraindication for laparoscopic cholecystectomy. This initial reluctance has slowly evaporated as the level of experience within the laparoscopic surgical community has increased. The aim of this study are to compare the outcome of the laparoscopic with open cholecystectomy in patients with complicated gallstone disease regarding postoperative complications (e.g. Pain, Bleeding, Intraperitoneal Collection, Biliary leak,Wound Sepsis), hospital stay and resumption to work. Determine the conversion rate from laparoscopic to open cholecystectomy in patients with complicated gallstone disease.
