Rural Agriculture for Rural Development in South Africa

Bok av Jephias Matunhu
Rural poverty and underdevelopment are challenges to African governments, donor community and the world over. In South Africa, rural poverty is severe in the former homelands. This poverty is attributed to policy failures of the apartheid administration. The policies marginalised the African people. The current study focuses on the feasibility of rural agriculture in dealing with the poverty and underdevelopment in the post-apartheid South Africa. This study is ethnographic and the researcher lived in Amathole District in the Eastern Province for more than three years. The researcher established that dealing with the poverty in the district is a complex matter that calls for a deep involvement of the various stakeholders in the country. This study would benefit policy makers, development studies practitioners, researchers, and academics interested in rural development.
