With its variety of different approaches communication theory is one of the main areas of research in early modern history writing. Processes of communication are constructing political and social interrelations. Although they legitimize symbolical orders or question them. In a European and global context the British-Hanoverian personal union (1714-1837) constituted an example for this kind of communications. The communication approach with theoretical and methodical questions in the areas of communication practice, the political communication and the scientific communication provides a structure for the topic »communication in the age of personal union« and likewise allows to discuss recent scientific topics.
