Garten

Bok av Gunda Barth-Scalmani Gisela Mettele
Initially viewed as an exotic metropolitan phenomenon, Urban Gardening shifted to the centre of society in times of economic crises and debates about the conservation of resources. This book sheds light upon the multifaceted interweaving of gardens and women. The work of women in the garden was and is (once again) part of a subsistence-oriented domestic economy. At the same time, gardens are a space of enjoyment and representation, which women have (co-)designed, be it as clients, landscape designers or experts; be it as those who are involved in that line of work or simply those who use it. The chapters illustrate several of these aspects and give the recurring significance of gardens and horticulture a gender-specific, historical dimension of depth.
