Study of Tool Life in Rock Cutting : The objective is to look for enhanced tool life and to find out the various parameters of tool wear in rock cutting

Bok av Somnath Chattopadhyaya
The objective of our study is to look for various mechanisms of tool life in order to understand it and subsequently use them to find out the various parameters of tool wear in rock cutting. This will lead to the development of an understanding of the tool wear parameters which one can control in order to increase the tool life as per the convenience in machining. On the basis of the knowledge-base one has to try to maintain the tool life in order to favorably increase the material removal rate. This book also dealt with the experimental study of dry drilling in basalt and related tool wear. It is found that flank wear, VB, and cutting edge radius, CER, wear rates increase with rock strength, VB-wear rates and CER-wear rates exhibit opposite trends in their dependence on the remainder of the cutting parameters.
