Improvement in Muskmelon Using Gibberellic Acid and Maleic Hydrazide : Muskmelon or Cantaloupe; wholesome food

Bok av Pawar Yogesh
The muskmelon (Cucumis melo L.) is also called as wholesome food, which belongs to the family cucurbitaceae. Previous studies demonstrated that the mechanism of sex expression in cucurbits is governed by genetic and environmental factors. The application of plant growth regulators has been found to be effective in initiating higher percentage of female flowers and by their modifying the sex ratio and ultimately resulting in more fruiting in cucurbits. Therefore, the goal of this study was to investigate the influences of gibberellic acid (GA3) and maleic hydrazide (MH) on the basis of growth, yield and quality parameters of musk melon. The results of this investigation revealed that among different levels of gibberellic acid, significantly maximum growth attributes were contributed with the application of GA3 30 ppm. The muskmelon crop supplemented with GA3 20 ppm was superior on the basis of yield and quality of fruits. Among the different levels of maleic hydrazide, the MH 100 ppm performed significantly superior with respect to earliness as well as regarding yield parameters.
