Factors Influencing the Choice of Business Ownership : A case study of sole proprietors and people in partnership business as the source of household income in Goma DR Congo
Bok av Mumbere Kikoli
In DR Congo, war effects has destabilised the living conditions, resulting in the slowing down of the production processes. War has created insecurity in Goma catchment areas, so people migrated from rural areas to Goma City. Displaced people are obliged to look for survival methods in the new area. Hence, migrant and citizens without lucrative jobs engage themselves in micro enterprise, such as selling food, clothes and artisan activities as an alternative means of survival. These entrepreneurs in the town are in three categories: people who have migrated from villages to Goma City seeking security, victims of the Nyiragongo volcano eruption in January 2002 who had lost all their wealth and other citizens who live in the City. The problem of low capital makes individual micro entrepreneurs to work in difficult conditions in which they are exposed to wind, sun, rain, dust as they pass in different avenues in calling-up for customers. In enterprise development some problems appear like; paying a higher cost of the tax alone, rent and they are worried. The smallest capital from the initiative should finance household expense.
