The term places of remembrance spread at a remarkable rate. Pierre Nora's "Lieux de Memoire" had hardly been published when the term reached Germany and, though used hesitantly at first, since the publication of "Deutsche Erinnerungsorte" ("German Places of Remembrance") by Etienne Francois and Hagen Schulze, it has been used practically nationwide. Meanwhile, not only in history, but also in its neighbouring disciplines and media studies, it is so ubiquitous that many are tired of hearing it. This title includes German text.
