Three-dimensional collection of materials on the history of the Crimean (Eastern) War of 1853-1856. It has been prepared for publication well-known Russian military historian and publicist, academician of the St. Petersburg Academy of Sciences, a member of the military committee of the scientist, General Nikolai Fedorovich Dubrovin. In 1869 he was seconded to the General Staff for the military-historical works and started to collect a variety of documentary evidence about the preparation and conduct of military operations of the war. The collection of documents and materials included official correspondence of diplomatic and military nature, numerous publications periodicals, not only Russian but also foreign press, memories and testimonies of participants of heroic defense of Sevastopol, as well as specially collected information about outstanding military leaders of the Crimean War: admirals PS . Nakhimov, VI Istomin, FM Novosilsky generals EI Totleben, SA Hrulev, MD Gorchakov, and DE Osten-Sacken, as well as a number of others. In the future, to put together this unique material has been used for the preparation of Dubrovin fundamental work "History of the Crimean war and defense of Sevastopol" (vols. 1-3, St. Petersburg., 1900).
