Creativity Anton Chekhov to this day remains unsurpassed apex of Russian literature. However, several generations of readers perceive it as a writer almost tragic, "watched with sadness for the loss of ideals and unbelief of the Russian intelligentsia." It is certainly true, but it almost goes into the shadows least significant aspect of Chekhov - his satirical gift.
