Study of Musical Culture in Eastern Jin and Southern Dynasties

The study employs the first approach, namely textual research. It investigates the musical fand singing patterns of popular tunes, namely the music originated in Wu and Chu areas, from the perspective of music. The author further reflects on the generic relationship between music and literature in Yuefu poems, including the relationship between the form of Yuefu poems and music and between singing and teaching of tunes and Yuefu literature, as well as the "e;musical point of view"e; in the study of Yuefu literature. In a word, these researches serve to highlight the importance of Yuefu art and literature in the scholarship of musical culture in Eastern Jin and Southern dynasties.
