Against Interpretation - Research of Sontag Aesthetics

The book argues, that Sontag inherited the tradition of critical social consciousness of critics of New York School, but her criticizing object is not directed at the popular culture, but at academism with psychoanalysis and positivism. He asks for the restoration of "e;sexuality"e; of literary and artistic texts, expects to improve and broaden people's aesthetic boundaries and awareness through pure beauty in the form of art, equaling aesthetics to science and culture with instrumental rationality as the lead, bringing people liberation in feeling, promoting the recovery and development of humanity, and completing the aesthetic and redemptive mission of art.
