All being courageous, resourceful, reputable and efficient in war, the five made illustrious military exploits in Anti-Japanese war, and became Chiang Kai-shek's right-hand men in the civil war. Despite their distinctive tactics of art of war, they could not avoid the final failure. After the failure, some of them went to Taiwan while others stayed in Mainland China.
