Stairs Upwards

The Up Stairs contains two novellas - The Up Stairs and Silver, and tells a legendary story about a grass-root youth named Liao Huaibao in pursuit of official career. In early liberation days, Liao Huaibao was appointed as a clerical assistant in the town government thanks to his good handwriting. Under the guidance of his wise father, he survived various conflicts. However, when meeting the meteoric rise in career, he lost his love. The Silver tells a sad story of a large family in the republican period.
