Chiese, pieve e segreti sulle colline di Siena - Churches, abbeys and secrets on the hills of Siena
Bok av Annalisa Coppolaro
PUBBLICAZIONE BILINGUA ITALIANO/INGLESE / BILINGUAL EDITION ITALIAN/ENGLISH
In Italiano:
In English:
This book is made of skies, of stones and stars. It's a book to visit and to keep under one's eyes, when we are ready for unexpected itineraries. One can feel that it's written with love and with historical certainties, to take a trip beyond time, a curious trip, off the beaten tracks.
The churches in the territory of Siena are the heart and the sense of this itinerary, but behind these architectonic marvels there are men and women, and, mostly their histories. From Monteroni the Valdarbia stretches with its green lands marked by history and by man's presence. It is a discreet and continuous presence, at least until now, happy to share its land with trees and hills, so as to offer us a laborious microcosm where the visitor can immediately understand that there is nothing of that vanity pushing men to build churches and buildings in a chaotic and frenzied way. Here, the intricate stones seem to reflect the pale silky sky over Siena, imitating the games of light and shade on a human face.
This is finally a true Tuscany: we can see this also in Göran Söderberg's photos, offering a dashing deepness to this book, photos that don't ''tame'' beauty but they paint it as a raw object for us to discover. It's Tuscany with all in place: the Amiata mount in the background, Radicofani on the other side and Maremma's light in the background, in the heart of an Etruscan world that has left many traces, manly in people's hearts.
