Bok av Laura Stamps
Spanish artist Julio Gonzalez (1876-1942) ranks alongside Constantin Brancusi (1876-1957) and Pablo Picasso (1881-1973) as one of the most important sculptors of the twentieth century. Featuring insightful essays and lavish illustrations of more than 100 works of art, as well as intimate photographs and documents, this book charts Gonzalez's personal evolution from traditional metalworker in his father's workshop in Barcelona to avant-garde sculptor in Paris. The publication focuses on the unique collaboration and friendship between Gonzalez and Picasso, which played a decisive role in the development of Gonzalez's unique and innovative style. For Picasso, it opened doors to different forms of expression in sculpture. The book also explores Gonzalez's friendships with other artists, including Brancusi, Pablo Gargallo and Hans Hartung. Essays by Carmen Fernandez Aparicio (Reina Sofia, Madrid), Picasso specialist Marilyn McCully, professor of Art History Valeriano Bozal and curator Laura Stamps (Gemeentemuseum Den Haag).
